An exclusive lithograph from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse reveals Miles Morales’ Spider-Man preparing to punch Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099.
Sony Pictures Animation has released a new Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse lithograph featuring Miles Morales/Spider-Man in the middle of a battle against Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099.
Kicking off a Twitter thread chronicling the film’s presentation at the 2022 Annecy International Animated Film Festival, the exclusive lithograph was drawn by artist Jesús Alonso Iglesias, who tweeted that he was “honored to draw [the print] with the magic touch of [artists Patrick O’Keefe] and [Justin K. Thompson].” The colorful art shows Morales’ Spider-Man about to throw an electrified punch at Spider-Man 2099. Shameik Moore and Oscar Isaac are set to reprise their roles as Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2099 respectively in the upcoming 2023 Marvel animated film.
Across the Spider-Verse began development ahead of the release of the first film, 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Sony officially confirmed the sequel in November 2019. Set after the events of Into the Spider-Verse, the film will further expand on Miles Morales’s multiverse adventures. Producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have stated that Across the Spider-Verse is substantially bigger than the original movie. In addition to having the largest crew ever assembled for an animated movie, Across the Spider-Verse also has 240 unique characters, which is a huge increase from the original film’s total of 40.
Similar to Into the Spider-Verse, the upcoming sequel will find the various Spider-Men going up against multiple antagonists. Their main adversary will be The Spot, a villain whose “whole body is covered in interdimensional portals (made to feel like ‘living ink’) that can send him anywhere he wants to go. He can also make these portals appear out of thin air to transport objects and people at will.” Jason Schwartzman has been cast as the voice of The Spot. Across the Spider-Verse will also include the Vulture, who will be voiced by The Lonely Island member Jorma Taccone. Taccone previously voiced Norman Osborn/Green Goblin and the Spider-Man from the 1967 animated series in Into the Spider-Verse.
Besides Moore, Isaac and Taccone, the returning cast from Into the Spider-Verse includes Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry and Luna Lauren Vélez as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, Peter B. Parker/Spider-Man, Jefferson Davis and Rio Morales respectively. New cast additions beyond Schwartzman include Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman and Shea Whigham as Gwen’s dad, George Stacy.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2, 2023. Its sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is set to open in theaters on March 29, 2024.
