Man fighting for life in hospital following attempted murder in Rutherglen

A man is fighting for life in hospital following an attempted murder in South Lanarkshire.

The 40-year-old was seriously assaulted around 3pm on Sunday on Greenhill Road in Rutherglen.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by ambulance where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Investigating officers are treating the attack as an attempted murder.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage and carrying out door-to-door enquiries for any further information.

Detective sergeant Vicky Murray said: “This incident happened in the middle of the afternoon and I’m sure people will have heard or seen something.

“I am appealing to the local community to get in touch with us with any information they have, no matter how insignificant it might seem, please pass it on.

“We do not know the motive for this attack and it’s imperative we trace whoever is responsible for this crime.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1944 of June 12, 2022. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can give information anonymously.”
