Col Blanch: WA’s new police commissioner revealed by Police Minister Paul Papalia

Deputy Commissioner Col Blanch has been revealed as WA’s new police commissioner.

Police Minister Paul Papalia made the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday, labelling him a “stand out candidate” with no daylight between candidates.

Deputy Commissioner Blanch has 39 years of experience in the force and was selected from a “very experienced panel” which included WA’s public sector commissioner, Sharon O’Neil.

Mr Papalia said there is only a “limited pool suitable” to apply for the position in Australia and New Zealand.

His leadership through the pandemic was spruiked and he will take office on July 15.
