Body found in Cornwall as family of missing man Richard Mockford informed

A man’s body has been found in a car that went over a cliff. All emergency services have been attending the scene in west Cornwall.

Police said that the family of missing man Richard Mockford have been informed. A search has been taking place since the 60-year-old from the Penzance area disappeared on Friday (June 10). The search was widened and more photos of Richard as well as one of his car were released yesterday as concerns for his welfare increased.

Now Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that a body has been found after they were called to Pendeen, near the lighthouse, at about 2pm. A spokesman said: “Police were called just before 2pm today, Sunday 12 June, with reports of a vehicle being located at the bottom of Pendeen Cliff in the area of Pendeen Lighthouse.

“Units attended including support from the coastguard and the ambulance service. The body of a man was found within the vehicle. This death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is to be prepared for the coroner.

“The family of 60-year-old Richard Mockford, who was reported missing since Friday 10 June, have been informed of this development.”

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire and rescue crews from St Just and Tolvaddon Community Fire Stations attended a location in Pendeen, to assist Coastguard and Devon & Cornwall Police. The fire and rescue crews were released at about 1900hrs.”
