Arch Manning makes another trip to Tuscaloosa on Alabama official visit

A day after slinging it at an LSU 7on7 camp and amid national recruitment, Arch Manning returned to Alabama over the weekend. The five-star and NFL legacy took his official visit, making another stop in Tuscaloosa sandwiched between trips to Georgia and Texas.

It was a star-studded weekend for Alabama coaches. In addition to Manning, blue-chips Richard Young (running back), Kadyn Proctor (offensive tackle) and others were in attendance. Manning threw on a crisp, white UofA uniform and posed for photos with would-be teammates. Other priority targets included 15th-ranked tackle Olaus Alinen, who snapped a selfie with 2023′s most-sought-after prospect.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound quarterback from Isidore (La.) Newman remains the 247Sports Consensus top-ranked player. While Manning hasn’t released a top schools list or ruled out any contenders, his recruitment appears to be down to three schools: Texas, Georgia and Alabama. He’ll be in Austin next weekend.

Since the Crimson Tide nabbed another Louisiana-based hurler, Eli Holstein, odds have shifted toward the Longhorns and Bulldogs. On3′s prediction algorithm gives Texas a narrow edge at 50.3% to Georgia’s 44%. Alabama comes in third with a 3.8% shot. In April, for reference, Alabama led the trio with a 35.6% shot following another one of Manning’s stops in Tuscaloosa.

Even with Holstein, Alabama could take another quarterback. It was one of the last big-name programs to make such an arrangement work in the 2017 class. Texas would offer a slightly similar situation, though, with the incoming transfer of Quinn Ewers drawing headlines last winter.

Here’s what Manning told On3 about his recruitment earlier this spring: “It’s kind of getting closer. I don’t really have a point yet, but I guess it’s kind of narrowing stuff down. I’m looking forward to (making a decision) either before the season or during the season or after the season. If I was ready I’d probably commit right now, but I’m not, so I’m just waiting.”
